McBride Named America East Rookie of the Year, Six Seawolves Named All-Conference

April 30, 2008

Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia/Attack) headlined a group of six Stony Brook University men's lacrosse student-athletes that were named to America East All-Conference teams the league announced at the awards banquet held in Baltimore this evening. McBride was named the America East Rookie of the Year, joining current senior Bo Tripodi (Hauppauge, N.Y./Attack) as the only Stony Brook players to receive the honor. The six all-conference selections are the most that Stony Brook has ever received during its seven seasons in the America East.

McBride, freshman Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British Columbia/Midfield) and sophomore Steven Waldeck (Levittown, N.Y./Defense) were all named first team All-America East, the most first team selections for the Seawolves since 2004. Named second team All-America East were three seniors; Owen Adams (Norwalk, Conn./Midfield), Rhys Duch (Victoria, British Columbia/Midfield) and Tripodi. McBride and Crowley were named to the all-rookie team, while Duch also placed his name on the league's all-academic squad.

Earlier this season McBride scored 10 goals in Stony Brook's 19-16 win at Delaware, setting a school record and coming just one-goal short of the NCAA mark. He currently leads Stony Brook and the America East with 43 goals, a number which has him tied for 6th on the Stony Brook single-season list.

Crowley has also made his mark in the national scoring ranks where he is among the leaders in assists and points per game. His 26 assists lead the team and the conference while his 22 goals are second on the team for Stony Brook. An all-rookie selection last season, Waldeck earned his first all-conference honor from his defender position where he leads the team in ground-balls.

This is the third all-conference honor for Duch who is having his best season as a Seawolf. He is tied with Crowley for the team lead in assists with 26, a mark that is more than his previous three seasons combined and also has him among the national leaders. A health science major, Duch made the all-academic squad on the strength of his 3.39 GPA.

It is also the third all-conference selection for Tripodi who is second on the team with 27 goals. Earlier this season he became just the third player in Stony Brook history to record 100 goals and is now second all-time with 114. This is Adams' first all-conference honor. The midfielder is having a solid season for Stony Brook and has set a career high of 23 points this season on 15 goals and eight assists.
